you’ll have an easy commute into the city to

AMTRAK train from Jackson.
History of Ridgeland
Mississippi
Choctaw Indians originally settled in the area
and used the land for farming. Old Agency Road
is part of the original old Natchez Trace that
is still in use today and listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Today
Natchez Trace Parkway is part of a 444 mile
national park.
There is historical significance to the area
because Native American Indians and early
American settlers used the old Natchez Trace
trails as a major transportation route between
1750 and the early 1920’s. The road is steeped
in history because many of our nation’s
forefathers traveled this route including our
fourth President, James Madison. After the
Battle of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson marched
his army home along this same path. Imagine them
stopping along the way and resting under shade
trees and getting a cold drink of water. Later
Old Agency Road was built along this very same
scenic and historic path.
There is a bike trail from Old Canton Road to
the Ross Barnett Reservoir outlook on Natchez
Trace Parkway. Ridgeland will host the Natchez
Trace Century Ride on April 12, 2008 and
bicyclists from across the southeast will be
participating in this fun event.
