History of Flora
Mississippi
Early settlers found their way into
the southern hills and valleys of Flora as they
were looking for fertile farm land along the
Mississippi Delta. By 1830, the area became not
only a rural farming community, but also a major
shipping distribution point for cotton and
lumber from the south.
The historic Mississippi Petrified Forest,
which was unearthed in 1854, has been one of our
Registered National Natural Landmarks since
1966. It was formed millions of years ago from
an out-of-control river that created a massive
log jam. Over the years, the sandy soil washed
away and revealed the petrified logs that
visitors can still see today. Flora's natural
environment has lots to offer home buyers. With
fertile land, wide open spaces for hunting,
lakes for fishing, and available acreage for
horses, Flora is a popular place to purchase
rural real estate in Mississippi.
